Website Accessibility Basics Every Business Should Know
15 Jul 2026
Accessibility means designing your website so that people with disabilities can use it. This includes visitors who use screen readers, rely on keyboard navigation, or have low vision or colour blindness. Accessible websites also tend to be simpler and easier for everyone.
Start with text. Make sure font sizes are readable, and keep strong contrast between text and background. Avoid placing important information only inside images. Add descriptive alt text to images so screen readers can explain them.
Make sure your site can be navigated with a keyboard. Buttons and links should have visible focus states. Forms should have clear labels, and error messages should explain what needs to be corrected in simple language.
Accessibility is also good for search engines. Clear headings, descriptive links and well-structured content help Google understand your pages. Treat accessibility as a quality standard, not an extra feature.
